I am not religious. I don’t read the Bible nor have I ever wanted to. I ordered this book because I like the comments in the side sections that try to explain what the Bible is saying in lay man terms. Also, I bought it used for $12. Excellent purchase it was in great shape.

Required Reading In My House!
Pastor Max Lucado has always had a way to unpack information in a way that really gets down deep into my heart and soul. I had recently moved twice and in the process, I had misplaced my favorite Bible. To my further dismay, I was having difficulty finding it at any of my local church bookstores. So I turned to Amazon and purchased a copy. This is The New Century Version translation. It is presented in a more modern vernacular while still remaining close to other translations that I use for reading and study, the NLT and the NIV. I wouldn’t even know where to begin to highlight all of the great features of this bible. Along with tons of informative study helps, there are also several features that set this edition apart from others. First of all, Pastor Lucado’s gently assertive notes, devotions and teachings are strewn throughout. Not only that, but in practically every margin, there is a devotion from a trusted pastor, Christian writer or theologian. It is as if some of the greatest thinkers and preachers in the Christian faith are reading along with you, providing insight and clarity. Another feature that I have never seen in any other bible is “Jesus throughout the Bible.” These are half page studies throughout the Old and New Testament that help bring Jesus right into the heart and soul of the reader, showing us that indeed, the Word of God points to Jesus Christ from the first page of Genesis to the last page of Revelation. Some of the books or passages of scripture that I have struggled to grasp in other bibles seem to suddenly come to life in this edition. I just can’t say enough good things about this bible. A clear, concise, passionate version of the Word of Almighty God, this devotional bible will most certainly help anyone who picks it up to “experience the HEART of Jesus.” I highly recommend it be you new believer or at any stage of your walk with the Lord. Now that I have this bible back in my collection, I will never let it go. It has become “The family bible” in my house. I hope that if you are looking for an exciting, challenging and comforting devotional bible that you would consider purchasing this dynamic edition!

A Fantastic Bible for New Christians and Old
This Bible is a great resource. Through the studies in it, my understanding of the text has grown greatly. A fan of Max Lucado, the inspirational passages are not only interesting but help apply the text of the Bible in ways that make it more applicable and easier to understand.The New Century Version is very similar to the New Living Translation. I find it very easy to read and understand. It also reads well if you want to read a “real bible” to your children. They will be able to understand this version much better than many others on the market. I don’t like the “watered down versions” of the stories in many children’s bibles. My son (2 years old) brings me this Bible and says, “Read me about Jesus, Mommy”. He prefers this to his own Children’s Bible.I also highly recommend the “New Believer’s Studies” in the back of the Bible. I didn’t know this feature was there until I received it in the mail. Even though I grew up in a Christian household as a child, I’ve learned so much from these passages and Bible Studies. Consider using them as a source of spiritual growth.The different studies in this Bible can keep even the most avid Bible readers busy for quite some time. It contains many additions that provoke not only contemplation but actions as well.This would make a great gift for any Christian, and the leather bound addition is perfect. It’s sturdy, fits in traditional sized “Bible Holders”, and is traditional in it’s look. It would work well as a wedding gift or any blessed event.

Excellent resource for studying the Bible
Easy to read version of the Bible with numerous in depth discussions and devotionals to help make what you’re reading understandable and applicable to life today. The only thing I don’t like is the lack of indexing to a table of contents and identifying the book and chapter of the page you are currently on. To get around losing my place if I follow a link in one of the devotionals, I have to place a bookmark on the page I’m at. To return to where I was at, I look for the most recent bookmark created under the bookmarks menu. Not ideal, but it works for now. Hopefully, newer versions will address this problem.

I enjoy using my Max Lucado Devotional Bible; Each book of the Bible starts with an Introduction; very relatable to our modern times, an ‘About’ section (who wrote the book and the historical and cultural setting etc), a key theme and key verse, and key points – for example in the book of 1 Peter these ‘key points are listed as: 1. Holy Living 2. Submission to Authorities 3. The believer and sufferering.I’m enjoying using this Bible regularly alongside my other versions for study and finding these inserts very useful. I like Max Lucado’s plain, up to date (non flowery) language. His writing always resonates with my heart. What I like about this Bible is, although there are “extra’s (devotional topics, foot notes and those helpful study notes at the start of each chapter, Max Lucado hasn’t “interfered” in any way with the actual Biblical text, which is the NCV (New Century Version)

A lovely devotional bible. Max Lucado provides his commentary on the verse at the side of each page and throughout the bible. If you like Max’s way of writing you will love this bible. A true treasure for not for your bookcase, but for your heart and life. Helps you to understand some of the intricacies of the bible in a simple easy to read language whilst keeping the meaning true.
