Mining ancient truths that speak to our personal and global needs and crises in 2020
Did Lori know that her book would be published during the Global Pandemic? I think not. But she has uncovered rich treasures to strengthen our faith from each book of the Bible; timeless truths from God’s Word that are relevant to our generation, people like you and me living with the fear, anxiety and uncertainty of these days of the Corona Virus crisis.We can say with King Jehoshaphat that “we have no power to face this vast army (global pandemic) that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” We can “lay our circumstances before Him, confess your fear and powerlessness, and wait for His direction and deliverance.”When we question decisions made by our governing authorities, we can remember what Ezra wrote, “The Lord moved the heart of Cyrus”… a pagan king. God still moves in the hearts kings and presidents and governors and will still work out His plan in 2020. Not even COVID-19 can hinder God’s good plan. What a sense of security Ezra’s words give us.And when we ponder that delicate balance of how much to do or not do during the Pandemic we can be directed by the words of Nehemiah. We can pray to God AND post a guard day and night to meet this threat. We can take sensible steps, all the while trusting God.I can’t wait to read the next devotional to see what treasures will strengthen me tomorrow and the next day and the next as I find Lori’s devotionals directing my attention to new treasures for each of these days of uncertainty.

Easy to read but substance to learn from
I love how Lori Hatcher pulls nuggets from each book of the Bible to focus on in each devotional. They’re short and easy to read, yet have real-life tie-ins to the Biblical context. I knew many of the verses she used, but learned some new ones along the way. A great choice for a devotional book when you want something that’s easy to read and relate to but still learn from.

Uncommon devotions to feed your soul!
Things had become a bit stagnant in my daily devotions. So I began a search for something different to stir things up a bit and I found it! Refresh Your Faith: Uncommon devotions from every book of the bible was just what I needed. I had been receiving Lori Hatcher’s 5 minute devotions for busy women (Hungry for God Starving for Time) which I thoroughly enjoy so I was thrilled to see her new devotional here!This devotional is so refreshing! Mrs. Hatcher has found within scripture the little things, the one’s that go unnoticed, from the stories that we are already familiar with and they become thought provoking, soul searching wisdoms to apply into our lives. Also, she challenges further study and a deeper look into our selves. She shares great stories from her everyday life in delightful ways and encourages us to further venture into our uncommon faith. Definitely led by God to share her own faith, you will not be disappointed with this book! Give it a try!
