Helped Me See the Bible in a New Light
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this book surprised me in the best way. It takes stories I’ve known since I was a kid and gives them deeper meaning for my life today. The reflections and explanations helped me feel more connected to my faith again. It’s simple to follow but makes you think. A great read if you’re looking to reconnect with the Bible from a more adult and thoughtful perspective.

Beautifully written
This is beautifully written. The chapters are divided chronologically but also with an overarching topic. Within the chapters, the author identifies key bible stories and fully explains them–it really is as though the author is sitting down with you and saying “hey, let me tell you a story about…” After the telling of the story, the author ends with life guidance and applications–ways in which you can use the story in your everyday life and why it is important. I don’t recommend binge reading this all in one sitting, but if you do, make sure to go back and take it chapter by chapter and actually “listen” to the story and the lesson being told–cross reference it with the actual bible verses and study it deeply. Overall a beautiful telling and analysis and application of many of the greatest stories in the bible.

Very insightful
Enjoyed reading this book cover so much in the book let’s start with Genesis of faith. Discuss and deepens your understanding of the story of creation.. The book shares how these timeless lessons are still valuable today. Gives us a look at exodus and liberation.. Shares about Moses and how his divine commission very interesting read. Then my favorite story in the Bible is Job and what he went through. Shares the story and gives comparisons to other wisdom text, Such as a Babylonian poem, known as “Babylonian Job.” If you want to learn more about the Bible, this can be a wonderful start. I have only touched on a few topics in this book. A wonderful read.

It’s the beginning of another year, and I am planning on reading the whole bible from cover to cover again. Already, the notes on Genesis and Exodus have been useful. I have a deeper understanding of the books. This guide explains the cultural and social context of the stories,making them more real and human as well. For example, I never stopped to wonder how the plagues truly affected the Egyptians. My focus was only on the Israelites. The lives of ordinary Egyptians were devastated. The country must’ve been in ruins after the Exodus. The guide also rounds up each story with a reflective exercise, which deepens my understanding further. It doesn’t cover the whole bible, of course. And most of the guide is about the old testament. But it is a useful companion to have while reading the bible.
