You are invited to discover hope, faith, peace, and comfort in this book’s 30-day journey of Scripture, prayer, and song.
Believer in Christ, are you suffering right now?Has your suffering lasted long?Does it seem like you’re far from God as you suffer?Do you sometimes wonder if you even know Him?
In nearly eight years of undiagnosed and progressively serious illness, this was Lauri’s desperate experience, beckoning her to a deeper Scriptural understanding of God’s character. As the Spirit illuminated God’s Word to her suffering heart, God came near. The Lord provided hymns and songs to sing in response to Him. He helped her endure overwhelming suffering with strengthened faith.
This short, yet powerful, Bible study will help you draw near to God as you suffer, re-discovering who He is. Each of the thirty short studies focuses on one attribute of God’s character, with a gospel-centered focus on Jesus Christ. The Scripture and hymn-saturated devotional book uniquely provides you an opportunity to journal in response to the Lord’s character with intimate prayers and your favorite worship songs, into your suffering.

An excellent resource-a must have!
I just received my copy last night. I’m so excited to go through this book! This is exactly what I been looking for.I own a lot of books on suffering. Some better than others. This is the one that I will use daily, both for myself and in ministering to others. The devotionals are God focused instead of focused on looking inward. They look to the different characters of God, which is a reminder of who He is and the hope we have in Him. The devotions are short, which for many who are grieving is greatly appreciated as many have a hard time reading anything at length. Each day has a few Bible verses to look up that correspond with the attribute that was focused on. That is followed up with a short prayer praise area to respond to questions on how to respond via a short journaling sentence (again, very short, not too long) The last section of the day is a hymn or two (usually two from what I can see) that is written out that you can sing, or read. I absolutely love this book. I typically carry a hymn book, print out a devotional and look up some verses for what I need, Lauri has done all the work and supplied exactly what I need in this small but powerful book. I know if you or a loved one is suffering, this is a must have. This would even be a great resource as a companion for a study on the attributes of God. I can’t think of any way she could have done this better. This book is a help to my life and I’m excited to see it used to bring comfort and an understanding of God, in the lives of others. To God be the glory!

This book has been like a life raft !
What a beautiful book. So many times I have broken down in tears praying, “How do I keep going?” .Then I go to “Near to God”, get my Bible, start to pray and read Lauri Hogle’s words and the Words of life. She takes me right where I need to go, to Jesus. The healing comes, the worship comes, and the joy fills me. A wonderful gift to those who are suffering and those who are looking on, desperately trying to help.Thank you Dr Hogle for this amazing, greatly needed gift to all who will read it.

Compassionate, God-honoring, rich
This devotional book is a close friend to any who are suffering. It is full of rich Truth that is completely God-focused.It is natural for all of us to turn the focus on ourselves and our suffering when going through trials, but this devotional lovingly guides us to His feet and His character through Scripture and song.As a musician, this devotional especially fills me up and reminds me of the great gift of worship and praise as we grow closer to Jesus through the doubts and pain.So thankful for authors like Lauri and for this amazing book!

Profound insights and excellent writing
At a time when so much literature is a quick fix, idea-of-the-moment based, Dr. Hogle’s first book is a powerful resource that reveals what God’s word actually says about His character when we suffer. Such an encouragement and, because of its substantial scriptural references, so trustworthy. Her personal story and testimony is both comforting and compelling.

Such an encouraging book–true comfort and hope
This book will continually speak to the questions, doubts, fears, and worries that arise in our suffering, whether small or all-encompassing. The author points to Scriptures that will engage your heart and mind; and will lead you into fruitful times of worshipping in spirit and truth, finding true comfort and being able to exult in His mercies, His love, and our true hope. I love the hymns and the questions in each chapter.
