Good devotions
As a seminary graduate and ordained pastor in a major denomination, I get shown all kinds of books for my input. My wife saw this one so I got it.Yes, it is simple and comes at some of the issues from a side angle. For example, with Bathsheba, it talked about how they fell short and sinned. While, I’m not sure how much of that really was Bathsheba’s fault, I really thought it would have come from the position of recovering from being forced into doing something. But it didn’t. It talked about moving past our past. So that was an interesting take on the whole “incident”.Overall, this isn’t some great theological work for the long-time believer/studier. This is for the person who might not know these stories, gives them the scripture to look them up, and questions to ponder. That’s what a good devotion does, it makes you want to know more and makes you think about the scripture. In my opinion it is over priced at $14.99 at the time of this review. If it was 66% cheaper, I’d buy a case of them and hand them out. But way too expensive for that.I hope this review was helpful!

Well-written and interesting
I know the Bible quite a bit, but I’ve still learned new things and gained new perspectives from this devotional. I love that the women in the book are in chronological order based on their appearance in the Bible. On the first page for each woman, there is a Bible passage that quotes a passage from the Bible regarding the woman. This is either their introduction or a key passage from their story. This is an interesting devotional book that makes me want to read the Bible more.

Simple, relatable devotions!
I’m really enjoying this book of devotions. Each devotion is about two pages long and all follow the same basic format. Each devotion features a woman/group of women from the Bible, and has a passage of related scripture. There are the basic women you’d expect, but I’m also learning about several that were new to me! Then, there’s a summary of that woman’s role in the Bible along with a way to make it relevant to yourself. There are also thought-provoking questions to ask how you might reflect on similar situations or circumstances in your life, or how could otherwise apply some element from the devotion to yourself.I feel like the topics covered could apply to women of all ages and in all circumstances. There are issues such as comparing yourself to others, dealing with relationships, reflecting on your roles at home/work/church, etc.. In flipping through, I only saw maybe one or two things about raising children, and even then it was a “perhaps” type of thing, so I think this is giftable for single women or those who don’t have children. I also like how you could break this up and do one a day, or even one or two a week, whatever fits best for you. Would make a nice gift for someone or even yourself!

Overall Really Good
Pros: I really like how this book draws out women who are not as well known. There were a few stories that I had to review to remember their narrative! I liked that, though. It reminded me how many women are involved in the unfolding story. Also, I like that some of the themes brought out of their stories are aspects I probably would have overlooked without the author’s (or authors’) feedback. One additional area that I appreciated was how the writer/writers understand the vastly different circumstances of women reading. I saw the various ways in which they tried to speak to that (one church might look like this or it might do that). I thought they did a great job navigating those types of waters.Cons: I would like to know more about the author’s background for writing on this topic, etc. That wasn’t given. Additionally, I think because of the depth of some of the topics discussed, it just wasn’t possible to handle each topic fully (like the story of Bathsheba or Tamar). Those are just really hard to do in a short space. However, they were still done well overall. It is just incredibly difficult to handle those types of subjects in about a page.In conclusion, I enjoyed this read. It is a giftable item, too. It is meant to be a shorter devotional and not meaty study, and I do think it achieved that goal. I hope this review helps you!

Good Devotional for Women
I keep my eyes open for devotional books for both myself and my wife. This one is very squarely aimed at women and it is one of the better ones I have seen when it comes to encouraging women. It is based on the women whose stories are documented in the Bible. This book is a collection of 60 daily devotions for women, about women. It covers a wide array of women’s stories, including Eve, Rahab, Delilah (not all are positive), and so many more. The format is consistent: the author presents a passage of Scripture, followed by a discussion regarding the woman named in the passage, and finally followed up with a question or two to get the reader thinking. Each devotion is short, about a page and a half, so there isn’t a major time investment required. This is a nice little devotional that is designed to encourage women. It outlines the stories of 60 women in the Bible and it offers encouragement (and in some cases gentle warnings) to the reader based on those stories.
